Yeap, they noticed it back then, created dozens of different organizations and unions to support peace and prevent fights - and what do we have now? :)
When it comes to actions, all those global village's citizens and peacemakers appear nothing but "deep concerners" - countries see that and understand that no one would help them except themselves, going back from globalization to protecting national interests, "updating" their armies, etc. Actually, "fighting each other" has been happening all the time, including after WWI and WW2 (EU and USA aren't alone on the planet - East, African countries, etc. are permanently in war conflicts), so "working together rather than fighting" doesn't seem to work. People don't learn from their mistakes: new century - new wars...
